WashingtonD.C.-On Sunday, February 10, 2008, the Chinese Community of Greater Washington Metropolitan area is going to celebrate the “Chinese Lunar New Year” in Washington, DCChinatown on H Street, NW, between 6th and 8th Streets from 2:00 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Lunar New Year Activities in Mongtomery County , Maryland
Thirteen Montgomery County Public Libraries will welcome the Year of the Rat with a variety of programs in February and March marking the Lunar Year 4706. Music, dance and special performances will feature the sights, sounds and culture of Asia. Programs will include introduction to customs behind the Lunar New Year, traditional dances, hands-on art activities, puppet shows, healing and martial arts demonstrations including tai-chi and kung fu, calligraphy, crafts, Chinese yo-yo, workshops and children’s activities. Lunar New Year, which starts with the new moon on the first day of the New Year and ends on the full moon 15 days later, falls this year on February 7. It is an important celebration in the Asian culture as the symbol of spring festival. It is traditional to wear something red, the color that is meant to ward off evil spirits. Another custom is the Chinese lion dance that ushers in a year of good luck.

Lunar Year Open Ceremony at 12 noon on Feb. 9 in Lakeforest Mall, Gaithersburg, MD

Fair Oaks will be ushering
in the Lunar New Year with costumed dragons and lions, music, dancing, lantern
displays, Kung Fu demonstrations, kids crafts, and more, representing a total
